About

Jodhpur, the 'Sun City' of Rajasthan, is famous for its blue-painted houses clustered around the massive Mehrangarh Fort, one of India's largest and most impressive forts. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the city sits at the edge of the Thar Desert and retains its medieval character in the winding lanes of the old city. The blue houses, originally painted by Brahmins to repel insects and keep interiors cool, create a stunning visual contrast against the arid desert landscape.

Highlights

Mehrangarh Fort — one of India's largest forts with museum and panoramic views

Blue City lanes — walk through the blue-washed old town from the fort

Jaswant Thada — white marble cenotaph overlooking a lake

Umaid Bhawan Palace — one of the world's largest private residences

Clock Tower market (Sardar Market) — spices, textiles, handicrafts

Zip-lining over Mehrangarh Fort — 6 zip lines (Flying Fox)
