Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas where the Ganges leaves the mountains for the plains, Rishikesh has been a spiritual center for millennia. The Beatles put it on the global map when they visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in 1968. Today, it's famous for yoga and meditation retreats, the iconic Lakshman Jhula suspension bridge, white-water rafting, and as the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrimage.
